With over 30 years of experience, Derek has worked along side Ritchard to realize most of bbb architects Ottawa Inc.’s complex and high-profile projects. Derek’s areas of expertise include leading large teams on complex architectural projects; providing liaison with our clients, and developing constructible details through close coordination with the BIM Team and the Construction Manager. He has extensive experience working in both Design Build and Construction Management delivery models, in fact, Derek is a regular lecturer at Carleton University’s Professional Practice course for the past decade explaining the benefits and differences of CM versus DB compared to traditional tenders.
His strength lies in his ability to develop designs that integrate buildings with their landscape settings. From his first task with Ritchard, which was the plaza and landscape design for the World Exchange Plaza twenty-four years ago, to being the Project Director for the newly opened Shaw Centre (formerly the Ottawa Convention Centre), he and Ritchard have enjoyed planning, designing and creating some of Ottawa’s key buildings and spaces.
